Is All Water Equally Good for You?
Keeping hydrated and trying to drink more water is great advice that most of us want to follow. But the fact of the matter is, some types of water are going to benefit us more than others. Read on to find out why all water is NOT the same!
What is the pH of water?
As you may remember from chemistry class, the acidity of water is measured by pH:
- Neutral water has a pH of 7.0
- Alkaline water is pH 8.0 and above
- Acidic water is pH 6.0 and below
Alkaline Water is by far the best choice
This is because it helps to neutralise damaging oxygen free radicals in the body which are widely considered to be major factors in accelerated ageing. The term pH stands for ‘power of Hydrogen’. We are hearing more and more about molecular hydrogen and its unique ability to confer therapeutic benefits on essentially every organ in the body.
At Smart Soda our proprietary alkaline filters release molecular hydrogen into water for increased health and wellbeing.
Everything we do begins with alkaline water.
Other benefits of alkaline water
In addition, raising the pH of the water we use in our drinks into the alkaline range, helps the body buffer acidity. Our filtration system adds specially selected natural minerals, which cluster into ceramic balls and release calcium, potassium, magnesium, and other supportive nutrients. This results in clean-tasting alkaline water with powerful antioxidant properties.
The problem with acidic water
When you take neutral water and make it fizzy with carbonation, the pH of the water automatically becomes more acidic. Some leading brands of carbonated soft drinks can be as acidic as pH2.7 – try dropping a dirty coin in a glass and see how clean it becomes! Acid is a problem for our teeth as it weakens the enamel, leaving them vulnerable to damage. Every time we eat or drink anything acidic, the enamel on our teeth becomes softer for a short while and it loses some of its mineral content. Our saliva will slowly cancel out this acidity and get our mouth back to its natural balance. However, if this acid attack happens too often, through drinking fizzy drinks for example, our mouth does not get the chance to recover. This could result in slowly losing our enamel.
Smart Soda - clean tasting alkaline drinks
Unlike other fizzy drinks, our systems re-balance the acidic effect in producing a softer, cleaner tasting water as a base for all our sodas and flavoured waters. So, as well as the health benefits of alkaline water, your teeth will also say ‘thanks’ and you will love the clean, light taste as a base for our delicious healthier range of soft drinks.
